I HAD A DREAM
THAT ONE DAY
YOU’LL SHUT THE FUCK UP
((ooc: Oh gosh, where do I begin? Now, I can’t answer for everyone, since everyone has different reasons for ships. And don’t worry about it, darlin’~
Now, the less-important reasons are the aesthetic reasons. The similarity and contrasts between Rapunzel and Jack, especially with the Sun-and-Moon theme that is important in the fandom. It’s day and night, where they fit so well together and there’s this balance between them.
But the most important reasons are the way their personalities, stories, and just themselves fit together.
Rapunzel is innocent, obviously, and still retains this innocence as she grows older. Jack, who values childhood and the ‘spirit’ that’s a part of it, finds this in Rapunzel. It’s what initially draws him to her. But she can also relate to him in a way that a child cannot, because she has an adult’s understanding and ability to talk to him that a child does not have. That’s just what I think draws him to Rapunzel first. Of course, Rapunzel is first drawn to Jack because he is the first person she has met besides Gothel. But also because he’s caring, fun, and there’s something about him that is deeper than meets the eye. He’s wise, even if he may not realize it because all those years he’s been living and his experiences.
She doesn’t just love Jack because he is a part of the world outside, but because of who he is and how he lives in that world. His personality is strong enough that she can’t picture a world without him—and soon enough, she can’t imagine her own world without him. He is someone who survived for so long without going over the edge, like Pitch did, because of the loneliness. She admires that strength.
They also relate to one another, because of this loneliness and how they were both searching so desperately for who they really are (the lanterns and Jack’s lost memories). They both yearned for acceptance, and they find this acceptance in one another—they find someone who understands living in loneliness they never chose to find themselves in. That’s just one of the big differences between this pairing and Jelsa, is that Elsa’s loneliness was self-made—she shut herself off from the world because of her fear. Jack was isolated because no one believed in him, and Rapunzel was locked away in a tower for her ‘safety.’ They can both understand what it’s like to feel trapped and not understandwhy. To question, to ask, and one day, finally have answers.
They both can emphasize with others so easily—like how Jack can so easily relate to children and Rapunzel is so understanding of others. Jack doesn’t have to constrain himself around Rapunzel, he can just be free. He doesn’t have to run away to open up—Rapunzel’s presence just does that for him because she is the farthest thing from being judgemental. She may be hesitant about something at first, but she doesn’t condemn people for their faults. Jack makes her feel like she’s the most beautiful girl in the world, and Rapunzel makes him feel at peace. And Jack’s love of having fun and excitement excites Rapunzel (not like that you silly billys~), and Jack adores the way Rapunzel’s free spirit comes out and how she just embraces life—something he can tell Gothel has tried to squash, which makes seeing this vibrancy in Rapunzel even more special.
I feel like I’m running on so long, but being an OTP, I guess that’s the excuse I’ve got. There’s so much more I could ramble on about, but I’ll stop here because the post is getting toooooo long. If you want any other opinions on why people ship them, I would suggest asking other shippers but these are my thoughts so I can’t speak for them. I hope that was easy to understand—especially since I was kind of rambley.*cuddles self* I feel so warm and fuzzy now~~
